Straighteners break chemical bonds in curly hair. Those containing lye can cause skin irritation and hair breakage. Don’t use relaxers or any other hair treatment if your scalp is irritated.
Perm is used to make straight hair curly and the risks are similar to those with relaxers.
Color treatment has two types: permanent and semi-permanent. Some semi-permanent coloring are fairly safe and easy to use. Permanent treatments can cause allergic reactions on some people such as hair loss, burning, redness, and irritation. If possible, do a patch test before using a product, and never use hair dyes on eyelashes or eyebrows.
